Chapmaker 1.40
1 What's ?
- Chapmaker is a software which allow you to create chapters files for BSPlayer. BSPlayer can associate movie with chapters, and every chapter can be associate to a thumbnail.
- It can extract picture embedded in cbf file
- It can create directly chf file with the DVD Ifo file

BSPlayer rules:
1.a Auto load:
When you read some movie with BSPlayer, if the movie folder contain a file with the same filename as the movie but with the .chf extension, then the chapters will be auto loaded. Moreover, if the movie folder contain a file with the same name as the movie but with extension cbf, then the thumbnails of every chapter will be automatically loaded.
1.b Loading with bsi file:
BSPlayer also accept ini configuration file (bsi file). It's best to have a bsi file other an ini file because the extension bsi own to BSPlayer (a double click on it, and the player start with this file, if you've got a bsplayer ini fie, simply rename it to bsi ).
To launch a movie, you need to open bsi file, or drag'n drop the ini/bsi file in BSPlayer.
The ini/bsi file can have many informations, like subtitles, font, number of cds of the movie, chapters, language.
1.c Using chapters functions:
When you're playing a movie, you just have to go to the menu (using right mouse click on the movie) or go to the main menu ->other menu
After this, you need to go to chapters sub menu, if they have been loaded, they will appear, and you can directly go to the scene you want.
You can also use the shortcut Ctrl+B, so you go to the next chapter. Or use the shortcut Ctrl+Y, and go to the previous chapter.
If a cbf file comes with the movie, you can also visualize chapter thumbnails, by clicking on "option viewer" or using the shortcut Ctrl+V.
Chapmaker can create cbf, chf or (simple) bsi file (bsi files are created if you create chapter for a multiple cds movie)
the cbf file owns pictures, one for each chapter.
the chf file owns reference time et chapter title.
the bsi file owns, in addition to the chf file, the number of cd, and also starttime reference for each cd.
2 What do you need to create chapters ?
There are different ways to create chapter with Chapmaker:
The pictures:
-You can create chapter with JPEG files
-You can create chapter with an AVI file
The time reference:
-You can edit it yourself
-You can use an existing chf or bsi file
-You can use the original IFO file from the DVD
2.a With JPEG file:
Click on "Add Picture"... An options is available at the opening of the browse window "Autmatic load of next files", if this box is checked, it tries to load next files, for example if the filename is picture1.jpg, then Chapmaker tries to load picture2.jpg and so on...
2.b With an AVI file:
Click on "Select Movie"...
And you can make capture directly movie frame.
To do this, select the frame you want, using the trackbar slider, or by filling the time or frame you want in the edit box, using the button
and
. To capture the frame, you just need to click on
2.c Reference time:
Once the frame is captured, the time and also the frame are automatically saved.
If you had added a JPEG file, the time is unknown, it's up to you to enter the time or the frame... If a movie is loaded and if the time or frame you've entered match with the movie, the software automatically compute the corresponding frame or time...
You can directly load a chapter file (CHF, BSI, IFO) with the button "Select Chapter", Chapmaker direcly adds chapters and capture the frame for you (if there's a correponding movie loaded).
If you start by loading the chapter file, when the movie file is loaded, it automatically capture the corresponding frame.
In all case, you can update frame, time, and chapter title informations.
3 How to ?
I'll explain two ways, but there are others:
3.a One cd movie:
1 - Load the movie
2 - Choose the chapters
3 - Check the "keep aspect ratio" box
4 - Choose a width (just above the previous check box)
This width is the width of the chapter thumbnail, I usually use 200.
5 - Create File
If you have created your chapter using IFO files, check the "Create chf/bsi file" box
6 - You just need to copy or move the chf and cbf files in the same folder as your movie, and launch it with BSPlayer...
3.b Multiple cds movie:
1 - Load the movie using "Select Movie" button
2 - Load every new cd, by clicking on the "Add Cd" button
3 - Choose the chapter file
4 - Cocher la case conserver les proportions
5 - Choose a width (just above the previous check box)
This width is the width of the chapter thumbnail, I usually use 200.
6 - Create File
Check the "Create chf/bsi file" box
Chapmaker will create the following files: xxx.cbf, xxx.chf, xxx1.bsi, xxx2.bsi...
Copy the cbf and chf file in every movie folder and rename them into "movie filename.chf" and "movie filename.cbf".
For example Matrix cd1.avi should have this files : Matrix cd1.chf and Matrix cd1.cbf
You could already see your chapters under BSPlayer, but if you wanna burn your movie, I recommend to use Ininmaker, because it creates bsi files, and it's very usefull for multiple cd movies. You can find it on my website (look in the about section).
4 Tuning, optimizations
4.a the AVI file
An avi file is made of frames, some of them are called KeyFrame, the other frame are computed in relation to this keyframes. When you want to seek to a frame, there are 2 case:
-this frame is a keyframe, and the seeking is very fast
-this frame isn't a keyframe, and the video codec will have to seek to the previous keyframe and compute all the frame from this keyframe to you frame. This is why seeking is sometimes very slow...
And when you want to access to a chapter, you ask BSPlayer to seek to this scene... So to minimize the seeking duration, you just need to choose for every chapter, a time which match with keyframe.
4.b Update pictures:
When you load your chapter file, every video frame corresponding to the chapter is captured.
However, the chapter's time sometime corresponds to picture not very nice or not very understandable. Then, you can choose another frame of the movie for this chapter (and keeping the same reference time)
1- Select your chapter.
2- Chooose the movie frame you want to put on it
3- Click on this
4.c Update time:
There are many possibilities to change the time of a chapter :
1- Select the chapter
2- Edit the Current Time or Frame
or
2- Choose the frame of the movie you want to link your chapter with.
3- Click on
or
2- Click on
, this is choosing the nearest keyframe and it becomes
4.d Others functions:
When you've captured a frame, or when you've added an picture, to create a chapter, you can see in the list:
xx:xx:xx.xx - KF - Chapter title
or
xx:xx:xx.xx - Chapter title
or
00:00:00.-1 - Chapter title
KF is for KeyFrame, the time of this chapter references directly a key frame of the movie
The time of the JPEG file remains 00:00:00.-1 until you've changed the current time or frame for this chapter
The red key appears if the current frame or time are keyframes.
The follwing buttons
and
allow you to find the next or previous KeyFrame. The frame of the next and previous keyframe are displayed below each button.
